Thomas Merton the poet once penned the words,

“Love is our true destiny. We do not find love on our own, we find it with another”

And what a privilege it was to capture something of this love story – a love that brought a union together from east and west, and a wedding day that will long be remembered. A day that was full of music and poetry, love and laughter. And as the fresh spring buds on the trees showed new life two hearts were celebrating their union.

Robert & Erika decided to have their wedding at the lovely Hathersage in Somerset West, a beautiful setting for a stunning day.

Robert and Erica, thank you for inviting me into your wonderful day!

Job & Kim | Wedding | Houwhoek Inn

I love hearing the unique stories behind each of the couples I have the privilege of working with on their big day. Kim and Job are an international couple – Kim is from South Africa, and Job is from Belgium. They met in Belgium while Kim was on an internship for her law degree there.

Once engaged, (see Job’s amazing proposal here), Job made the move to beautiful Cape Town, and has a deep love for this land and it’s people.

When two cultures collide at a wedding it always turns out to be a colourful event. Job & Kim infused the Belgium culture wedding traditions with the South African ones. Job bought over the best of Belgium beer for the wedding and his family also planned a traditional theatrical performance that had the audience erupting with laughter. When the dancing started, Job’s brother took to the dance floor and taught the entire wedding party traditional Belgium dancing.

Choosing a venue for a wedding is always one of the big choices couples make. It often seems to set the tone for the memories that are made on the day. For Hannah and George, the quaint English country town in Lenham, Kent, UK was the ideal place to say their vows. Not only was it a beautiful setting for their ceremony at St Mary’s Church, but also a stunning reception was set up at Hannah’s parents residence. In fact there was much effort put in to prepare for the day, even the lawn slope was specially re-leveled to accommodate the marquee, and additional equipment shipped in to make it all happen.

George & Hannah | Engagement

Rebecca Groves Photography

During this UK visit, one of the weddings I have really been looking forward to was that of my friend Hannah.

We have been friends since early school years, and it was a real honor to get the opportunity to capture her and George together a few weeks before the wedding date.

Doing an engagement shoot is always a great opportunity for couples to get some extra experience in front of the lens, and always pays off with great photos on the day.

Wedding shoot to follow shortly – watch this space!

Mark | Portrait

It’s been great to catch up with old friends during our short stay here. One of Nick’s friends is a great musician, and he needed some photos to update his online presence.

Running short on ideas as to where we should shoot, we managed to find a spot nearby a local shopping area that had some good texture and lighting that would compliment and enhance the photos. We were lucky to get it just before the sun went down!

Job & Kim | Engagement Shoot

Rebecca Groves Photography

This has to be one of the most exciting photo shoots I have ever done – all because I wasn’t just capturing Job & Kim for their engagement – but I was also photographing Job’s surprise proposal to Kim.  And what a proposal it was!

Job & Kim met in Belgium while Kim was finishing her final year of her law degree there.  A romance blossomed, as did a long-distance relationship, as Kim had to come back to South Africa and Job had to stay in Belgium to finish his studies.  After many trips back and forth for each of them, Job decided that he was going to make a very special, surprise trip over to South Africa to get down on one knee and pop the question to Kim.
