This has to be one of the most exciting photo shoots I have ever done – all because I wasn’t just capturing Job & Kim for their engagement – but I was also photographing Job’s surprise proposal to Kim. And what a proposal it was!
Job & Kim met in Belgium while Kim was finishing her final year of her law degree there. A romance blossomed, as did a long-distance relationship, as Kim had to come back to South Africa and Job had to stay in Belgium to finish his studies. After many trips back and forth for each of them, Job decided that he was going to make a very special, surprise trip over to South Africa to get down on one knee and pop the question to Kim.
Job had always known that Kim had wanted to do a skydive, but never had the chance. He very cunningly got a friend to design a pretend competition card to win a skydive and got it to Kim through a friend here. Kim entered the competition and low and behold she was surprised when she was notified that she had ‘won’ the competition. All the time she did not know the Job had actually arranged the skydive for her and would be waiting on one knee when she landed.
We met Job just outside the sky diving location and had to hide for a while until Kim was up in the air in the plane. Nerves and excitement filled the air. It was such a privilege to be apart and capture this life-changing moment for this couple. (to see a small clip of Job before the proposal you can go here)
After walking over to the landing strip, Job got ready with the ‘Marry Me’ sign he had made and the ring, held tightly in his hand. This was it! And it was exhilarating to watch!
As Kim landed and saw Job, sobs of joy came as she ran over to meet him and he popped the question. And of course – she said yes! 🙂
After drinking some champagne to celebrate, chatting about the surprise proposal and how Job had managed to pull it all off and phoning family and friends to tell them the great news. Job & Kim and I went off to Blouberg Beach to capture them for their engagement.
Job and Kim – CONGRATULATIONS!! Gosh, it was such a joy to be apart of this amazing moment in your lives and be able to capture it for you. Thank you so much!
